When we moved into this nice quiet neighborhood almost 5 years ago, it was mainly older people, who's kids where all grown up and out of the house. Within the last couple years, we have had some younger couples move in. And just on our little street there is going to be three babies born with in 3 months of each other. My next door neighbor is due any day now, and a girl up the street is due a week after me. <br />
<br />
I have spoken to one of my older neighbors one day last summer as Summer and I were going for a walk, and we ended up sitting in his front lawn chatting for almost an hour. He told me he was one of the original S.O.B.'s, funny eh? "South Olive Bunch" is what they called themselves, (the street we live on.) The men and women would get together once a week, the women would play cards and the the men would meet somewhere to drink coffee and chat. He still meets up with two of the other men, although it was starting to dwindle as health was getting in the way and one was now in a nursing home. Chris and I have a pretty good relationship with most of the neighbors and I love it. Some of course stick to themselves, mostly the ones of our age. I don't know what it is, maybe once all the babies are born we will have a common denominator : D <br />
<br />
But for now I have a lot of love from neighbors that give me tips on gardening, tell me what's going on with their neighbors, lol, we talk about our dogs, and what's happening at church, since I don't attend; someone give me a kick in the butt, please!MaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-38010486522295364432010-04-02T08:39:00.000-05:002010-04-02T08:39:21.391-05:00Comment away....I finally figured out how to switch the settings, so that anyone can comment on a post. (This may be good and bad, lol.) I know a lot of family that read, do not have a blogger accounts and now you don't have to. So if you have something to say, let me know!MaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-59651061836553910992010-03-31T12:15:00.001-05:002010-03-31T12:19:06.190-05:00Back from I don't know where..Sorry about the break I have taken from blogging. I figure I will have it again, so I'm getting a jump start on it. It's kind of nice knowing what you can and can't eat. Isn't it hard on your own? Luckilly I got to see a dietitian, and I learned the ropes of low carb eating.<br /><br />While pregnant with Summer I gained 10 pounds before finding out I had GD and starting the diet. By the time I had her I was down 25 pounds. I am hoping to lose weight with this pregnancy too, I was losing about 3 pounds a weeks, amazing!<br /><br />I know, different diets work for different people. Just so happens my body responds really well to the low carb diet. Some people go on it and there body does not respond. If you are looking to lose weight this year, one diet may not work, but just try another. Good luck! Wish me luck too!MaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-45935240697527923732010-01-09T11:56:00.000-06:002010-01-09T16:50:11.207-06:00New Years Day<div align="center">Finally time to celebrate Christmas! Chris and I found out we are expecting again on Halloween. But we couldn't get into the OB's office until yesterday. We got to listen to the heartbeat of our little one, it beat at a strong 158 beats per minute. How exciting and surreal. I had morning sickness for 3 weeks, same as last time. I feel great! Our little peanut is due July 7th, maybe this one will come on Daddy's birthday, as Summer came on mine.<br /><br />Our next appt, we get to have an ultasound in about four weeks. I'm so happy that Summer is going to be a big sister!MaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-42025366543080894182009-12-08T09:59:00.000-06:002009-12-08T10:25:17.609-06:00Winter is here..It's been pretty lazy around here lately, not much going on, and it's super cold out. We just find things to do inside, and I have had no ambition or energy for that matter. So this is what Chris and I caught Summer doing one day.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixE0O-hQaPzA4tur_HKv_XVoqMN1_6OAIJ2Q9Tk-v1LwBTkWWCmdmyhp8waFTQruEVZFITORKCb6_FCj3YpJev7aLieiKGOHpLEBH-aZZvO90NsWN0CkHgZTo2ewdmKXOfHkn029u2i6g/s1600-h/christmas+time+024.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5412897600306545650" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 180px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixE0O-hQaPzA4tur_HKv_XVoqMN1_6OAIJ2Q9Tk-v1LwBTkWWCmdmyhp8waFTQruEVZFITORKCb6_FCj3YpJev7aLieiKGOHpLEBH-aZZvO90NsWN0CkHgZTo2ewdmKXOfHkn029u2i6g/s320/christmas+time+024.JPG" border="0" /></a> Just laying around with the dogs and some ornaments off the tree, poor kid must havebeen bored, because she never just lies around.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2RlQI3eh4Ika8H73fO7UP8YWfCgWsX2bdcvgqO6x4v33wNT3gcu3SssVWVO-421NC82TW8_wpwlSyUPopmAVLbUSvSVohy-p6tQMqgegpQu4W46BDx88G8ddeXG_D1UMs-KlulZh6_78/s1600-h/christmas+time+022.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5412897592544859922" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 180px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2RlQI3eh4Ika8H73fO7UP8YWfCgWsX2bdcvgqO6x4v33wNT3gcu3SssVWVO-421NC82TW8_wpwlSyUPopmAVLbUSvSVohy-p6tQMqgegpQu4W46BDx88G8ddeXG_D1UMs-KlulZh6_78/s320/christmas+time+022.JPG" border="0" /></a> Here is Buddy Bear, enjoying the flashing Christmas tree lights and gazing out the door. This is the life for a dog though, and he is enjoying the day.<br /><br />After Chris left for work at 4 yesterday, I was BoReD, and didn't have an idea for anything fun indoors, so we went out. It was a cold 18 degrees, but it felt warmer. It took probably a good 10 minutes to get all of Summer's winter gear on, Snow pants, boots, coat, hat, and mittens. That's a lot of stuff for a little 20 pound kid.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGE2oCK_Wc2WKJVYufrt-yM9C8OQEvPXc3EGP4E_K3bwerNAXUzUimfwSbDhs0HDysQuNEDtV2v6GfFSeF6AnYR1hddKnMXlLKR0q29Y1cuhhn3bompDwg0nSY7648Uv0-OamWOimuaFA/s1600-h/christmas+time+025.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5412897581287671634" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 180px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGE2oCK_Wc2WKJVYufrt-yM9C8OQEvPXc3EGP4E_K3bwerNAXUzUimfwSbDhs0HDysQuNEDtV2v6GfFSeF6AnYR1hddKnMXlLKR0q29Y1cuhhn3bompDwg0nSY7648Uv0-OamWOimuaFA/s320/christmas+time+025.JPG" border="0" /></a> Here she is in all her gear, she was not enjoying it. I don't know what it is, but she wanted me to hold her. Can you imagine what it must be like for a kid? She was outside everyday this summer loving the outdoors and the weather, and now this. What happened? Why do I feel so cold? And where are the pretty greens, all I see is white. Probably a shock to the system.<br /><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmXQ2W0-JW3B4tVitBA_Wkh0z4ee8YuocS1yUhTCOqZCKHg6PprC8cCZXwq2I1uGkxeyvYhbmea3uuIvuFEb7C_YOg7uvVLHNOBCda4Ge1t6XwiQujX15e6Nk2D6fwq78BhUxF6Azj5-o/s1600-h/christmas+time+026.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5412897587276227666" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 180px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmXQ2W0-JW3B4tVitBA_Wkh0z4ee8YuocS1yUhTCOqZCKHg6PprC8cCZXwq2I1uGkxeyvYhbmea3uuIvuFEb7C_YOg7uvVLHNOBCda4Ge1t6XwiQujX15e6Nk2D6fwq78BhUxF6Azj5-o/s320/christmas+time+026.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><p>I was trying to show her to not be afraid of the snow. It was so much fun, although these parties are from 5 pm tp 11 pm. Seems a bit much, but you have to stick around in case they draw your name for a big prize every hour! The party was at Kahills in The Marinna Inn, which is very nice. Since Chris works for Beef Products Inc, we had to have their beef, which Chris said was more likely better quality, so we enjoyed prime rib. There was a cute photo booth that you could get a cute holiday card with four pictures of you and your better half for free. I don't think the line ever ended though. There was a DJ and a dance floor.<br /><br />Chris recieved his 5 year service award, which was a sterio that has an Ipod dock,very cool. His name was also drawn and he won a 10.1 mega pixel digital camera from Sony. We already have an awesome digital camera thanks to Bob, my father in law, so we are going to return it and get Chris some warm coveralls that he will need for all the snow that is to hit the Midwest.<br /><br />My parents watched Summer, my nephews, Tyler and Jayden were here, and it sounds like Jayden and Summer played all night! I had arranged for my dad to come pick me up at 7:30 so I could get Summer to bed, since I'm the only lucky one to be able to. But i was tired and Summer was definetly ready for bed once she saw me, ew, and Crab-by! Of course she missed her second nap that day. But all in all we had a lot of fun and it was a great day! I was so nervous about how Summer was going to do, I forgot to take pictures. :{MaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-26260405423174658622009-12-02T10:11:00.000-06:002009-12-02T11:10:45.870-06:00Legend of the Christmas SpiderThe day before Christmas the mother of a family made a huge effort to get her home clean so it could be decorated and made ready to be blessed by the Christ child on Christmas. The spiders fled before the vigorous onslaught of the broom. They scurried away to hide up in the furthest reaches of the attic.<br /><br />The house was cleaned and decorated with great care. A Christmas tree was brought in and arrayed with ornaments and decorations. That night, when the family had gone to bed, the spiders returned to the main rooms of house to see what the flurry of activity had been all about. They were delighted by the beauty of the home. The Christmas tree was the center of attention, however, and the spiders ran to the tree and danced throughout its branches so they could admire each and every one of the ornaments. Of course, to do this, the spiders had to spin their webs, so the tree was soon wrapped with strands of dull gray spider silk.<br /><br />In the morning, the Christ child came to bless the house. The tree was beautiful to him, for after all, the spiders were among God's creatures, but he knew the mother, who had worked so hard to clean the house, was not likely to view the webs the same way. The Christ child touched the spider webs and they began to glisten and glimmer and turn to sparkling garlands of gold and silver.<br /><br />In the morning, the entire family gathered about the Christmas tree and exclaimed that it had never looked so lovely! Only the mother knew that the sparkling strands were a true Christmas miracle and not some last-minute decoration. Since that time, it has been tradition to bedeck the tree with garlands and tinsel. While the mother still chases the spiders away for cleaning on Christmas Eve, she remembers and honors the Christmas miracle by hanging a spider ornament among the branches of the tree.<br /><br />I think that is a really neat story! If you want to make your own Christmas spider ornament,copy and paste this, my hyper link isn't working. http://www.betterbudgeting.com/christmasornaments/chirstmasspider.htmMaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-5047761092453475672009-12-01T09:33:00.000-06:002009-12-01T09:53:08.440-06:00Oh Christmas Tree!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlgFrNItgs4ghekKoBbNVjGOcWEo32I96tBMrs6iCQMmBcIS4n7I_ZQFcZLSJd4_L501-ZxGnzm87BHEidexvnzTFPrJANoVmI3YZ_Nt6eXJZftdbvpuqpD4Zo56h9OGdtZRgHAAcrxhk/s1600/christmas+020.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410294781237521794" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 180px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlgFrNItgs4ghekKoBbNVjGOcWEo32I96tBMrs6iCQMmBcIS4n7I_ZQFcZLSJd4_L501-ZxGnzm87BHEidexvnzTFPrJANoVmI3YZ_Nt6eXJZftdbvpuqpD4Zo56h9OGdtZRgHAAcrxhk/s320/christmas+020.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>Happy December everyone! It really does seem like a magical time, doesn't it? Yesterday we went and picked out our Christmas tree, and I have to say we picked a great one this year. I don't even think it is going to fall over on us! We bought blue and silver bulbs and clear lights, not too mention 4000 strands of tinsel. We were going for ghetto fabulous, but after Chris put on only 2000 strands it wasn't looking very fabulous at all, so we took it all off.</div><br /><div>Summer thinks everything is a ball on the tree, which kinda cute, she hasn't messed with it too much. Ours was really nice except for Chris had to work 3rd shift Wednesday night so he was not able to join us at my parents. He enjoyed a frozen pizza and football for his Thanksgiving. We are off to the Grandparents for Thanksgiving! I will be back blogging Friday. Everyone have a great Thanksgiving!!MaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-37746792090921057622009-11-17T10:22:00.000-06:002009-11-17T11:00:43.359-06:00WAL*MART employee of the monthChris and I left Summer with Grandma Teri to go do out grocery shopping at walmart last night. Dang you walmart, I hate you but I love your prices! It is nice to get out alone just as a couple even if it is a trip to the store.<br /><br />When we are all finished up I pick a line that had only a few people in it with a few items. When we get up there for our turn, Chris is getting all the stuff out of the cart and I get to meet walmart's employee of the month! Lucky me! She was a heavy set women, looked possibly pregnant but I believe she was too old to be bearing child, with thick wavy blond and gray hair pulled back into a pony tail. She was wearing no smile, was moving quite slow, I think because she was in a very bad mood. There was a little girl probably 18 months old in a cart shouting by customer service, and our cashier kept giving the evil eye too and grumbleing under her breath. I pretended not to notice. Chris looked up towards the little girl and our cashier said, "annoying in'it?" Chris did not hear her, she then goes on to say to herself, "She's entertaining herself, and annoying the rest of us." I was thinking yikes! I picked a bad line!<br /><br />This was all before she even got our reusable bags ready to bag our stuff. Most employees do not like bagging with the reusable bags and our EOTM did not either. She takes all my bags and starts shaking them and says to me, "You really should wash these, there is pet hair on them, that is so unsanitary!" In a snotty, uptight tone. I then told her that I tried washing one and it balled up and that they were not washable. So she grabs a bag looks at the tag and sees it reads, "hand wash only." She raised her vioce and said. "hand wash only? That is ridiculous! They are supposed to be reusable!" And adds, "I'm allegic to pet hair" with the same tone and started sniffleing dramatically and wiping her nose on her shirt. I looked over at Chris with wide eyes but he was oblivious to the whole thing, still busy getting our things out of the cart. When we left I'm sure the poorwoman waiting behind us got an earful of my pet hair bags. Chris couldn't believe what he had missed, he probably would have said something smart to her, if he had heard though.<br /><br />We have pets, and my bags have a few pet hairs on them, but it wasn't like I let the dogs roll around on my bags. I will use a lint roller before going to the store next time, in case I run into Mrs. Sniffles again...MaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-18462014403364648842009-11-15T07:02:00.000-06:002009-11-15T07:53:31.104-06:00Ball-ll<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_eIJJV8LO6erCfWZMuRoKCckyyLGMdWJOXMnisz9BT3AEAl_y8B2Gra9soucPw50VsFWxN8cFippz5AKWM62ZvieLVPs7aKLa6AClqsodJGPZUNEx1g4xSzR50DUUNktwIiP4LmpjBEQ/s1600-h/Picture+or+Video+038.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404316801115216290" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 180px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_eIJJV8LO6erCfWZMuRoKCckyyLGMdWJOXMnisz9BT3AEAl_y8B2Gra9soucPw50VsFWxN8cFippz5AKWM62ZvieLVPs7aKLa6AClqsodJGPZUNEx1g4xSzR50DUUNktwIiP4LmpjBEQ/s320/Picture+or+Video+038.jpg" border="0" /></a> Summer has a fascination with balls, she loves to take Bear's tennis balls from him and throw them to him. She gets so excited it is really cute. In fact anything that is round is a ball to her.<br /><div></div><br />Recently though she has nocticed the "l" sound on the end of the word ball. So instead of saying "bo" she really tries to put the "l" sound on the end. It cracks me up! Take a look! We did! We really, really did! I know that sounds totally lame, and this would not be an accomplishment for most. But for us this is huge! I woke up this morning and before we even got out of bed I decided I wanted to go to see my mom who lives 45 minutes away.<br /><br />Summer is a nightmare in the car, she cries, sobs, and screams, it makes my stomach hurt, it is so bad. I have not been to my hometown since before Easter, so probably 7months. Crazy I know!<br /><br />I got her diaper bag prepared with enough stuff in case we made it there but couldn't make it back home. LOL! In the back of my head I thought it was silly, b/c we would only make it 10 minutes out of the city before she started to act up. I let her eat her breakfast in the car, I gave her a baggie of grapes. My Lord it worked! Now they didn't last the whole time obviously and she still did very well. A lot of prayers were said today.<br /><br />Grandma was so happy to see her, she hasn't been there since she was really little so she didn't remember anything at all and everything was new. She was excited about everything, especially mom's dog Oz and the cat. She was giving grandma kisses like crazy it was a really fun day! We went to see great Grandma Faye and she had nothing but compliments to say, which, if you know her, that really is something coming from her! (Sorry Grandma Faye, you know it's true. LOL)<br /><br />Unfortunatley, I left in such a hurry this morning I didn't think to bring my camera, so I'll throw in some recent pics of my Summer bummer.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHhf0IYKvvMbvjWDn91h0KlmEJTtx75m2YCXdcB_Aox3Jt69L2E7FUPXEmnpFULXWhrzFV-nXU5X7RVZ1xTJePp3ri3WxL757Iy5xhiRZKuLRmEUW1H_694Ps8tq1Zi1RCD6tWiKcqaYk/s1600-h/maggie+013.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403045616640199138" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 180px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHhf0IYKvvMbvjWDn91h0KlmEJTtx75m2YCXdcB_Aox3Jt69L2E7FUPXEmnpFULXWhrzFV-nXU5X7RVZ1xTJePp3ri3WxL757Iy5xhiRZKuLRmEUW1H_694Ps8tq1Zi1RCD6tWiKcqaYk/s320/maggie+013.JPG" border="0" /></a> Dancing queen</div><div align="center"> </div><div align="center"> </div><div align="center"> </div><div align="center"> </div><div align="center"> </div><div align="center"><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFSNMaFkyneTBWO5x7ECKoIWTJg9pl8gYdW-q2wcGty_4jOxIKjylFrXgyaIxJmHjYh7WG5VYwRdigNX9I1Y_GLVTNWV7VMWwTKNlmOqcMQ7ZMqwijELoCHpbfoLqVZ2zQEM95BqY_0Uo/s1600-h/maggie+014.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403045602457636466" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 180px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFSNMaFkyneTBWO5x7ECKoIWTJg9pl8gYdW-q2wcGty_4jOxIKjylFrXgyaIxJmHjYh7WG5VYwRdigNX9I1Y_GLVTNWV7VMWwTKNlmOqcMQ7ZMqwijELoCHpbfoLqVZ2zQEM95BqY_0Uo/s320/maggie+014.JPG" border="0" /></a></div><p align="center">Little pigtails</p>MaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-68207455216604445322009-11-08T09:12:00.000-06:002009-11-08T09:52:47.752-06:00Collar Chaos!<div align="center">I don't know how this all started. I have changed a whole lot since I got interested in all this. If we need something, we think, "Do we need it to be brand new?" Or could we find it at a second hand shop? I wanted to find a juicer, well I bet the goodwill has one, and it needs a home. And if I don't have to buy one new, that is reducing the new amount of things that are manufactured, and that is a good thingfor the earth. </div><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="left">If you are a mama like me, you can breastfeed, which is best for baby anyway, and cloth diaper, did you know each diaper takes approximatly 500 years to "go away."</div><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="left">Plant a garden if you can it is an amazing expereince! Your hard work pays off all summer long. Summer and I ate zuchinni almost everyday for lunch, we love it. The seed packet probably cost $1.30 and one zuchinni at the store is $1.50. Makes more sense to me, to put a little work in and your rewards are great!</div><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="left">Water is where you can try to conserve as well. When I use water I think of how those African ladies have to walk a long way just to dip their one little bucket in the water and carry it all the way home. I bet they don't take their water for granted. So it always makes me think. What you are supposed to do is run the stream of water the width of a pencil, and shut your water off while brushing your teeth. Also if you can hand wash your dishes, that uses way less than your dishwasher.</div><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="left">Electricity is where we try to help out too. Chris wanted all new windows for this house and I was skeptical, but I'm so glad he made that decision. Also we never leave a light on in a room that we are not in. With our DVR, if we pause the TV and are going to be away from it for awhile, I shut it off now. There is controversy about this one in the house, I believe if you unplug things, then there is no way it is using any energy; Chris on the other end thinks if it's not on and plugged in it is fine. So I try to unplug things when not in use. We used to not care, we where energy hogs, but now we are aware of it. I remember we would leave the basement light on for days at a time. When Summer and I go for our walks I see outside lights on or central air units running when it is 62 degrees out, because I am aware of those things it drive me crazy! Shut off your lights, sunlight is great light, especially for outside, and try opening your windows! =D I wish some people would wake up! Since we have started all of this our electricity bill has gone from $199 a month to drumroll please....$116 a month, cha-ching that is a lot of savings people!</div><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="center"><strong><em>Reuse</em></strong></div><br /><div align="center"><strong><em></em></strong></div><br /><div align="left">Reuse is something that was a weird concept for me. We live in such a greedy and convenient world. Disposable everything from cups to plates, razors, and bags. I now try to think of how I could use things in a different way. Like sour cream and butter containers, I can use them as poor man tupperware or a crayon holder. Before with my Ziplock bags when I was done with them I would throw them away, no matter what was in it. Now if it had meat in it I pitch it, but they have plenty of use in them, so I reuse!</div><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="left">Freecycle is another great way to reuse. If you have never heard of this, it is a green group in your area that recycles the stuff they don't want. This reduces the need to go buy something if someone offers something you need. The best part is when you are doing a deep clean and want to gets rid of a lot of stuff most likely someone else could use it! I have gotton rid of an old recliner, decoratives cornstalks, miniblinds from our old windows, extra veg from my garden and a box of test strips I didn't need. By doing this you are not filling up the landfills and giving your old stuff new life! To find your local freecycle click <a href="http://www.freecycle.org/">here</a>! We got a water softener from freecycle, cool huh! </div><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="center"><em><strong>Recycle</strong></em></div><br /><div align="center"><strong><em></em></strong></div><br /><div align="left">If you don't recycle you should consider it. For some people in some towns/cities it is easier than others. You can go to your cities webpage and find your towns recycleing info, such as what number plastics yout town accepts and if they take glass or not. Any paper including paper towels can ne recycled as long as there is no grease, so if you get pizza take out the box will have to be throw BUT you can take the top "lid" off and recycle that. Once you throw something in the garbage, it gets taken away form your house, but it will sit in a landfill forever or take thousands of years to actaully "go away." So many things can be recycled and made new again, give it a try!</div><br /><div align="left">I'll list some paper goods that are recycleable you may have not thought of, and if these are being made into some thing new they arebnot clogging up the landfills.</div><br /><div align="left">Paper towel and tiolet paper rolls</div><div align="left">Paper plates, no grease remember!</div><div align="left">Junk mail</div><div align="left">construction paper</div><div align="left">wrapping paper</div><div align="left">any cardboard</div>Happy Greening!<br /><div align="left"></div></div>MaggieBirdsellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10814616689313591699noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4876403296993967098.post-3381225317206978962009-11-04T16:46:00.000-06:002009-11-04T17:36:35.266-06:00Trying to find fun inside<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5i-5blw8a6_J3g_J2ytA4j2qMvTHRpZJZn4EmIgI5C2kmVDB8JTL1HVmof1x7m9fAYp1f8hn_NXrfT-WTUkegfk4lMGwYCwP2hs8u1yEGblQNVJAT8HzXXE0eBXhgc1HXrbFeEfXJdhY/s1600-h/summer+022.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400386481985936242" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 180px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5i-5blw8a6_J3g_J2ytA4j2qMvTHRpZJZn4EmIgI5C2kmVDB8JTL1HVmof1x7m9fAYp1f8hn_NXrfT-WTUkegfk4lMGwYCwP2hs8u1yEGblQNVJAT8HzXXE0eBXhgc1HXrbFeEfXJdhY/s320/summer+022.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div>For Summer's 1st birthday her dad and I gave her two rocking horses. One is special, b/c it was made for me by my uncle Jim when I was little. It is still a little big for her but she likes to ride it if you hold on to her. The other is a soft fuzzy pony that talks and gallops. She was afraid ofit until now. Ride um cowgirl! She actually gets it rocking all by herself.</div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>We went for a walk today and then played in the yard, although it was pretty nippley outside. We can not watch TV all week thanks to the drool monster who shorted out the remote, I don't watch a ton of TV, but no TV, UGH!! Even though Summer has a couple hundred books, we can't read them. Grandpa and Grandma came to visit, and Brandi and Jayden came over. Dad took us all out to Golden Coral, and was very yummy. We all went before poor Chris had to go to work, so he had to eat and fun and miss out on the fun. Summer was eating likea little piggy! We could not believe how much she was eating! She ate, rice, mac'n'cheese, roast, chicken noodle soup, and a little dessert. We also discovered she does not like beets. I'm mean, nah! Fortunately, Brandi sat with Summer and supervised her, Chris and I got to enjoy our meals! It was so long since that has happened. Grandma brought Summer a crabby face plastic baby doll, and she won't put her down, she loves her! Mom and Dad got their hair did by me and of course look fabulous. I miss doing hair just a little.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div align="center">In other good news, Summer went to her Grandpa and hung out with him for a while.</div><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3HFrf5SeEmHkVLnvqGSBvmHAxca56c_soD9et8h4m5GXMkM0KojHn7Po5pflpMHqD8rN7TWe4IqrNrGvuSvsPljJv2z_t88zRzkWtGUnLGYobAMy5eMTW7wy7fAOqWxdzS6JtI5OjIAE/s1600-h/summer+025.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5399877762496780722" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 180px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3HFrf5SeEmHkVLnvqGSBvmHAxca56c_soD9et8h4m5GXMkM0KojHn7Po5pflpMHqD8rN7TWe4IqrNrGvuSvsPljJv2z_t88zRzkWtGUnLGYobAMy5eMTW7wy7fAOqWxdzS6JtI5OjIAE/s320/summer+025.JPG" border="0" /></a> <div></div><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiav1snbCe7eTCvgV7jNAMo1Xzd93SyiQQtD9d1YjXCv3xRlOLZfxeJgjX_oLuLGZ821ky2bmpuL_wh46ZkpvxjiCOP7y2WVL3DCl2FFbpgGrnz3FlJb8DOZ9362jk63DdSZS8v-8wqUE0/s1600-h/summer+026.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5399877774041727250" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 180px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiav1snbCe7eTCvgV7jNAMo1Xzd93SyiQQtD9d1YjXCv3xRlOLZfxeJgjX_oLuLGZ821ky2bmpuL_wh46ZkpvxjiCOP7y2WVL3DCl2FFbpgGrnz3FlJb8DOZ9362jk63DdSZS8v-8wqUE0/s320/summer+026.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><div align="center">Mom, Brandi and I were hanging out in the back yard, for those of you that don't know we have two big dogs.
